There has been coverage in recent years of of “Smart Homes” and the “Internet of Things”, this technology can also benefit Garden Squares.
The technology has the power to reduce electricity and water consumption in Gardens, improve safety / security, and make increase the benefit, utility and use of a garden to its ratepayers.
Historically Garden Squares have been cut off from internet access owing to three factors:
We avoid these issues by installing Wireless Internet, with a pay-by-month (in advance) SIM card. If there is a power source in / near a Garden Square, we can connect it to the internet. WiFi can then be networked around the Garden by means of External Access Points.
Smart Switches, as pictured, connect to WiFI and can be installed behind outdoor sockets in the Garden. These smart switches can be triggered on a dynamic timer (e.g. 30 minutes before sunset), controlled through a phone app, or even triggered by other devices.
For example, if motion is detected on a camera by the gate, a smart socket can be switched on.
