Railings Refurbishment Works
Our team includes restoration specialists who can refurbish metal (including Cast Iron) railings, plinths, stonework and brick pillars. The hope is through regular, cost effective maintenance, clients can avoid the need to repair / replace parts of their railings.
Where more extensive repairs are required, we can work with specialist fabricators to work through problematic areas, whilst are core team delivers the remainder of the refurbishment work.
Cost-Efficient and Hedging-Sympathetic Refurbishment
We recognise that a significant amount of time and money is required to develop a decent hedge to screen a garden. For that reason our approach is to minimise the disturbance to hedge plants next to railings, gently tying back limbs during works, and avoiding the use of heat/chemicals during the stripping process that would otherwise damage the plants.
By doing so we are able to maximise outcomes for clients, who not only benefit from good-as-new railings, but also retain long established, dense hedging.
Gate Removal and Refurbishment
Our team frequently have to remove and refurbish gates as part of installing new Access Control Systems, where the old key-lock-cylinder mechanism needs to be switched to a Magnetic / Gate Lock. As part of this process, we remove the gate from site, board up the opening, and refurbish from a controlled workshop environment.
Even when a new Access Control system is not required, we can follow the same process to refurbish gates, allowing for a best-quality finish on the returned metalwork.
Examples of Completed Works: Kensington Park Road
Before
A Notting Hill garden approached us to refurbish a 40m section of railings along Kensington Park Road.
The railings were likely installed some time in the latter half of the 20th century, though had fallen into disrepair, with large amounts of surface rust and cracked plinths throughout. The pointing on the gate pillars was also at the point of failure.
With minimal disruption to the hedging, our team was able to brush the railings back to the bare metal, apply a rust treatment, then apply 3 coats of Hammerite Direct-to-Rust Gloss paint.
The cracked plinths were broken up before being reformed from scratch. The result is railings that look almost as good as the day they were installed.
The Brick pillars were completely repointed using a weatherstruck profile to minimise ongoing water penetration.
